A dryad is a form of mythological Greek nymph associated with trees, and especially oaks. Currently, the term has come to be used for tree nymphs in general or human-tree hybrids in fantasy. Painting my dryad I was inspired by the colours of carnivorous plants, like Nepenthes, a tropical pitcher plant, and Drosera, which is commonly known as the sundews. I suppose that joining of carmine and dark green gives the sense of something spiritual and hidden inside the tropical forest, maybe we can still find the dryads there, who knows…
