Item Ref.: 37276 via

Artist: Mark Schatz

Item title: New Jersey Diner

Category: Painting

Movement: Contemporary

Size: W:48 H:36 in

Material: Acrylic-Canvas

Producing date: 2020

Item price: 3000 USD

Item description:
I call these recent paintings “Vacation Pictures”. Rather than featuring iconic monuments or natural wonders, I focus on some of the more ancillary, yet integral, aspects of travel: hotel lobbies, airport bars, restaurants, and the like- the journey rather than the destination. The venues themselves, designed and built as a sort of communal property, invite random and numerous individuals to share the space. Ironically, rather than nurturing shared public engagement, they more often create smaller worlds and intimate events: private conversations and personal reveries, respected and bounded by the understood barriers between tables and chairs. In these paintings, the study of light and its ephemeral nature shows us a world that can only exist as an instant. Its reflective properties, its transparency, translucency, temperature, and intensity all contribute to the rich layering of these (and any) scenes. Color sets a psychological tone as it defines a moment in a day.
