The inspiration for the whole series of Roy van Ecke's works were Myths as stories that contained attempts to explain the sense of the world. Myths are also a record of collective experiences and individual communities. They come from tradition, are timeless and anonymous. Myths persist in culture thanks to constant transformations and reinterpretations made by artists. The second source of inspiration for the Myths series was Asemic writing is a process inspired by handwriting. This is a completely abstract visual creation deprived of any specific semantic meaning and therefore open to every possible interpretation. Calligraffiti is a special form - an art form that combines calligraphy, typography and graffiti. This style integrates signs referring to lettering in compositions that form a broader, symbolic, very emotional message. The symbolism of calligraphy and deeply cultural inspirations from myths combine into abstract images with rhythmic, repetitive forms. Intensely colored backgrounds and a narrow range of colors are of special importance in the works of Roy Van Ecke.
