Item Ref.: 6872 via

Artist: inglis thorburn

Item title: Textured Abstract: Red Form

Category: Painting

Movement: Contemporary

Material: Acrylics on Board

Not for sale

Item description:
This painting is an experiment with using a pre-textured surface to paint on; using gesso I built up a monotone 3d relief surface on the board prior to then creating my abstract composition on top. The intention is that the edges of the base surface relief create a sub layer of composition, an additional level of interest to consider when viewing the painting.

To contrast the sharp and defined linear nature of the surface I've applied paint in a soft blended style using large brush work.

This further explores my interest in the relationship between formal and informal shapes, colour interaction and positive and negative shapes and therefore the creation of visual energy within the composition.
