Bio
Helen Shulkin creates mixed media artworks and portrait paintings. Her mixed media artworks are about contact with urban spaces. In a search for new methods to paraphrase the urbanity, Helen focuses on the idea of anatomizing architectural objects and more specifically on oversimplification of constructions through the light. The compositions aim to convey a state of limpidity where light itself becomes the main protagonist.
Through painting, Helen tries to capture a wide range of character-related dimensions, furthermore to reveal the underlying substance of unique personality. Her portraits often radiate a heat and latent power. At times, weightless melancholy emerges. The inherent explicitness of texture, along with the boldness of brushstrokes, further increases the perception of portrayed hypostasis.
Helen Shulkin was born in Belarus in 1978 and finished a Fine Art and Drawing degree at the Belarusian State University, Minsk in 2001. She currently lives and works in Baden-Baden, Germany.
