Bio

Aleksandra Toborowicz, Doctor of Arts, (b. 1983) is a visual artist working in the media of painting, drawing, installation, murals, typography and graphic design.

PAINTER / MURALIST / DESIGNER / LECTURER

Aleksandra's art is abstract, expressionistic, surreal and very spontaneous. She paints very quickly usually using papers, acrylic and pastel. Her works are a combination of painting and drawing.

In 2008 graduated from the Faculty of Graphics Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (POLAND), where now works as a lecturer at the Lettering and Typography Studio. PhD (Doctor of Arts) at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She works as a freelance graphic designer, designing mostly for typography, publishing, web, murals and installations. A winner of national and international awards in such competitions as the European Design Awards (3 x), Communication Arts, A' Design $ Communication Awards, Hiii Typography, 50 Books in 50 Books | 50 Covers, Design Observer and AIGA, The Most Beautiful Books of the Year 2014, PTWK, the Trnava Triennial, Machina Design Awards, Transvizualia, an award at the 2+3D Magazine Review of Best Graduation Works for her website Virtual Museum of Erotic Art in 2009. The winner of Art of Packaging 2006. Scholarships received from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2015), Young Poland Scholarship 'M?oda Polska' (2010) founded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2002 and from the Mayor of the City of Czestochowa in 2002. She was a curator at the 3x3 gallery, an institution promoting young graphic designers and artists, and has curated the PRO ARTE show at the Academy of Fine Arts Gallery in Krakow. She is also a member of the Association of Applied Graphic Designers (STGU). She was a member of a board of New Art Foundation ZNACZY SIE in Cracow (2012?2013).
